Hi, I was hoping I might ask a bit of advice if you have time? My question is, rather than taking the generator all apart, do you think it might be possible that I could get a twist-lock plug for the twist lock socket and combine the wiring at that point into a small fuse box with an RV socket coming out of that. My goal would be that I could easily return the generator to normal function when others barrow it or if I were to sell it.
I should mention it is a watt unit. Thanks, Dan As I sit here, I attempt to frame the question, and look at the data provided. The first question is what is the typical source of AC power used to power an RV? I was ready to show him how to install a switch to go from VAC only, at full Amperage, but perhaps all we do is set him up to start a fire in the RV wiring as we deliver more current through a box or plug not rated to carry it.
If this is the case, we have the an outlet from the generator at VAC that will carry as much current as what we find in any standard home outlet. So before we proceed with a solution, we need to hear from the RV experts that visit utterpower, I know there are several who know far more than I do about how they are wired.
The trailer does NOT have an air conditioner. How difficult would it be to convert the electrical system from the 50 amp service to a 30 amp service? I know a 30 amp cable is a lot lighter than a 50 amp cable so I am looking to see if I can save some weight due to not having to carry the heavier cable among other things that are not needed. RV SITES. Planning a family vacation or couple’s getaway? Looking for a “home away from home”? Working in the area and need a place to “hang your hat”?
First why are you wanting to meter each individual campsite? It is usually way to expensive as you have found out. Don’t know how your campground is laid out, but if it is tight you could put a post on the inside corner of 4 sites. But you have to make sure that the way they would normally park their cord can reach the pole. The other big thing is to make sure you have large enough wire for the runs to insure that there is not a huge voltage drop to each site.
And to provide power for 2 air conditioners washer dryer plus plus I would need to add metered sites and prefab poles with meters cost a min of plus per unit. Plus the campground is in a area that do not see many big rigs. By this are you talking about these appliances in the RV?
Supply pedestals are similar to the hookups at most campsites, typically made with one built-in amp outlet, one amp outlet and one or two amp outlets. Appropriately sized circuit breakers are preinstalled, and some feature a usage meter and a switched light for using the pedestal after dark. They are weatherproof and entirely self-contained, set up so that one amp connection to the pedestal supplies all the outlets with their correct voltages.
Remove the two screws at the bottom of the dead-front panel and lift it away, then test that all power is off using your voltage meter to bridge from the live side to the neutral side. Using Type UF-rated, four-conductor six-gauge wire, connect the two volt hot wires — one black and one red — to the fused screws of the breaker.

Contact Author Source Many RVs and camper trailers use a power converter to operate the lights, refrigerator, vent fans, and perhaps the thermostat on the heating system. The converter uses the volt AC power from the local power source and transforms it into the volt DC these items require. This article is intended to help you troubleshoot many converter problems and to repair or replace the unit if need be.

I am sure it is not the same as original. Will it damage my RV? No, it will not damage your RV. If it fits the available space, it will be good to go. A very high cold crank amp rating is necessary for an RV because of the large engine and the liklihood that the vehicle will go long periods without being started. However, you should always check the size rating printed on the old battery and look at the manufacturer’s website to help find the correct battery.
There are many sizes and several different types of terminals and it is important to get the right one. If my house has a amp line what size generator would it take to run the house and have the same power? Your house runs nowhere near amps, so you need to make a list of appliances and fixtures that you use, or that you will need while the generator is running, and add their power consumption together. Add some extra capacity for growth and so the generator is not always at full power.
Then talk to dealers about generators with the amount of power you need. To run the house on a generator with the same capacity as the service that you have in your house you would need a 50 Kilowatt generator.

July 31, , A few years ago a “neighbor” a few blocks away decided to buy a trailer and rent it to his brother and dumped the sewage into his existing septic system. It worked so well, he decided to buy two more and do the same thing To make a long story short, he overloaded the septic capacity and created a big spill which contaminated a next door neighbor’s well without anyone knowing. Fiinally several people got sick and the county health department did some testing and found the problem.
I’m not saying that any of this will happen in the situation you describe but the regulations are there for a reason and if you go around them, even for the most compelling reasons, you run the risk of causing unintended consequences. Similar examples could be found for overloaded electrical systems that cause fires and unintentional fresh water siphons that contaminate the water supply. I wish an easy answer were available for your question Logged 07 Itasca Meridian 34SH.
How can I install an rv hookup at my house – and is this a good idea? August 01, , City officials recently got nasty with some folks over it. Virginia has some strict health department regulations.
This includes lots of electrical appliances and devices. Watts, or overall power, is a product of current, or amps, and voltage. If you want to know how many different electrical devices you can have on at one time in your RV or in your home, for that matter , this formula will tell you. As long as you stay under the amount of available wattage, your circuits will run smoothly.
The volt system is powered by an RV electrical hookup plug or a generator, and it powers daily use items like kitchen appliances, your TV, and other electrical appliances. This can be achieved with a single 12 volt battery or several 12 volt batteries wired together in a parallel circuit.

Welding cable comes in larger sizes, but is expensive as many times you have to buy a whole spool. If there is a supplier near you, see if they will sell the short lengths that you need instead. You might get lucky at your local welding shop. There are several possible ways to wire your inverter. Whichever option you select, you can do the wiring with standard 14 AWG, household type nonmetallic cable. However you do it, you absolutely must ensure that you do not have your converter turned on when the inverter is on.
